In a plot line that would not be out of place in the X Files, Muller and Sully examine the strange “history repeating itself” events of two footballing trophies that went missing.

In 1966, just months before the World Cup in England kicked off the famous Jules Rimet Trophy aka the World Cup, was stolen from Westminster
Central Hall where it had been on display. A ransom demand of £15,000 was made but never paid as Pickles, a scruffy mongrel found the trophy hidden in a bush in a South London suburb and became the most famous dog in the world, except for Lassie.

Amazingly 44 years later "mac" erstwhile bon vivant and internet messageboard entrepreneur misplaced the equally famous Harry Dog Memorial Trophy. It’s subsequent discovery indicates the not usual involvement of alcohol and unsteady footing in the loss though Mac suggests otherwise.

Mac’s faithful hound Weller was out on his daily tour of duty in the local park, looking for rabbits to chase, when he examined overgrown shrubbery adjacent to the footpath only to discover the trophy amongst the weeds, coke tins and drugs paraphernalia of a suburban park.

A delighted Mac confirmed he a had a vague recollection of spending some time relaxing in that bush when it had managed to ensnare him as he walked home after an evening doing good works in the city. It is thought that trophy became detached from Mac’s head where it had been placed for safekeeping for the journey home.

The trophy is now safely stored on the top shelf of the cupboard in the kitchen ready to be presented at the annual FunDay on 1st August at St Andrews FC, Canal Street, Leicester, to the winner of the titanic struggle loosely described as a football match between a load of old blokes from Coventry and Leicester.
