Hibs are hoping to sign Inverness striker Adam Rooney according to various reports today.

However, the Jags forward has been the victim of much rumour recently but finds himself in a prime position to negotiate the best deal for himself as his current deal with the Highlands club runs out this summer.

The in-form striker has bagged 14 league and cup goals so far this season and ended a barren run of six matches by netting in Saturday's 2-0 victory over Elgin in the Scottish Cup.

Interest in the former Stoke player has been growing following his fine displays this season with clubs from England paying heed to his performances and Russian outfit Kuban Krasnodar had an offer rejected during the week.

Hibs boss Colin Calderwood has now entered the race for the striker having watched his side struggle to hit the net since he took over from John Hughes in October.

Rooney has scored four times against the Hibees this season including a fine hat-trick at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium in November.

Hibees gaffer Calderwood is eager to add some firepower to his frontline with the Leith side over reliant on Derek Riordan to find the net.

Both Colin Nish and Valdas Trakys have partnered Deeks up front this season but neither have impressed for any lengthy period.

The capture of Rooney would be a clear signal of intent from the Hibs boss as to the direction he wishes to take the club after a dismal run.

Calderwood has failed to see his side register a victory since the middle of November and has so far released midfielder Lee Currie, sold Sol Bamba to Leicester City and indicated more first team squad members such as Colin Nish, Kevin McBride and Chris Hogg are free to move should any club show interest.
