Hibs on-loan defender Jonathan Grounds looks unlikely to extend his stay at Easter Road past his loan expiry with parent club Middlesborough expecting him to return to the Riverside.

The 22 year old has made 14 league and cup appearances for the Hibees since arriving during the last transfer window and whilst showing some initial promise has latterly fell away somewhat.

Despite being solid in the tackle he's received some criticism for his distribution when under no pressure although he's shown glimpses of his talent when whipping in a few decent cross balls.

His deal at Easter Road expires on January 29th and whilst Hibs gaffer Colin Calderwood remained non-commital on Grounds future, 'Boro boss Tony Mowbray admitted "As things stand, I think he's likely to be back here soon."
