The club's just issued a statement saying Scally voted against allowing Premier League teams into the Paint Pot trophy. Good for him as it sets an awful precedent. Shame he got outvoted though...

In real terms, the JPT generally isn't too much to get worried about and I would welcome the PL teams in. But, it should be at a price. The JPT will give players a run out in competitive games, ie all part of their training and development; so, that should be accompanied by a tidy contribution from the PL's vast TV money. It could even have strings, eg only to be used for youth team development or something for the academy.

According to the report the Premier League have given 1m to the EFL Trophy. Peanuts I know, but some EFL chairman can only see signs, but not their consequences. It will not belong before the premier League will want to call the shots in this competition, and possibly then the rest of football. At least Paul Scally voted against.

Fair play Scally.

Can some of you not remember the Scottish League, where there were only two teams to compete for the title each year? Money is good, but if it is not distributed it is a waste of space!

Agree - I'm not that fussed about the JP Trophy or whatever it will be called, but out of principal we should be standing up to this proposal as it sets the way for U21 Prem Teams to be included in the new "EFL" structure in future, especially when it changes to 100 teams, as is proposed.

I also hope that Scally equally resisted the proposterous Rooney Rule that was tabled at the same AGM.
