Internet was over run with people slagging off the new Top Gear show with new presenters. So I thought I would watch it last night to see what all the fuss was about. I quite enjoyed it and it made me laugh, although I'm no petrol head.
Is it a Chris Evans thing or just people who don't like change?

agreed Vambo. No petrol head either but it was a nice change from the nauseating xenophobic, chest beating tone of the previous regime.

thought the same. watched it last night. Wasn't bad. While i wouldn't exactly be anticipating the next episode I would watch it again if i have nothing to do next sunday at that time. watched it a little under Clarkson and that was funny as well and this was no different. certainly not worth the uproar that some people had. it was never going to be seen as favourably as before, but for me it wasn't bad at all.

I really like the old show, but it is dead, so no point worrying about it.

I have watched the new one and it is fine.

Got the impression the people on points of view had not been fans in the first place, and just want it killed off.

They will be able to make some tweaks next wk, as last nights show was filmed before the 1st one was aired.

Agree - Its not as good as the old series YET but it has signs it will be in a different way very soon.

Its difficult to re-invent a successful format however saying that I did at times fell the Clarkson series went a bit stale at times so revamp in my view is not a bad thing

Like others have said, I'm not a petrolhead but loved Top Gear under the previous three. Three great characters in their own ways, and credit to the producers and editors for the ideas. It was great entertainment, even though you know it's fairly scripted.

I think because of how good the previous Top Gear was, so many came in with a negative outlook, and of course it was going to take a BAFTA-winning effort to win sown over. I found the new programme to be enjoyable. Chris Evans needs to keep his radio-style enthusiasm but just lower the volume a bit, and it'll be perfectly watchable. Just please don't try to be reaction-for-reaction Jeremy Clarkson, be yourself!

I can't wait until The a Grand Tour starts, even though I don't have a clue how I'm going to watch it yet.

I watched the first one and it was dreadful. A total lack of charisma between Chris Evans and Matt Le Blanc. The 2 continually laughing at things that weren't funny. Hate the rally track. Probably the one thing they should have kept.

I get that sometimes change is needed. But Hammond, May and Clarkson were entertaining in the way they did it.

I really think the problem with the show is Chris Evans. He's trying to be Jeremy Clarkson.

Haven't watched the 2nd one yet. Most people I know who have already watched said it was better than the first. Just not sure if I will bother.

Problem is they're trying to recreate the old show, rather than just accepting it's dead and trying something new.

LeBlanc is actually really good, but good lord Chris Evans needs to go. Badly.

I watched ten minutes of it and switched over to Gran Torino (a fantasy of another sort).

I do think my low tolerance of the new show is a function, in part, of how tired I'd become with the old show without quite realizing it.

"Problem is they're trying to recreate the old show, rather than just accepting it's dead and trying something new."

Even to the extent that Matt LeBlanc did the "some say" skit about the Stig - that was old when Clarkson did it.[rle]

Problem with Top Gear is most of the fun was the banter between the 3 blokes - If they have gone, so has most of the fun, and you're left with rich men drooling over cars that we can never affor. That said, I've no wish to subcribe to Amazon to watch their show

You want them to just ditch a successful formula that makes them / us millions - basically the BBC is funded by the UK public so its our money

LeBlanc is actually really good, but good lord Chris Evans needs to go. Badly.

Totally disagree - Chris Evans is the perfect host for the show BUT has yet to relax and learn to be himself. I spent 2 days with him last year and believe me he is a guys guy at heart -it will come right

The chemistry and balance between Clarkson, Hammond and May didn't start to form until series 3. So it will take a bit of time for the new presenting line-up to gel properly and find a way to make a show that works in their own unique way. I hope they're given the chance.

in general I don't want Top Gear to change that much. I'm not a petrolhead and can't name one car from another, but Top Gear is entertaining from super car racing and cruising along astonishing locales, to epic road trips. Flaming caravans on train tracks, grand pianos on Morris Minors etc.

I want Chris Evans to be more himself and natural, and less trying to be Jeremy Clarkson. But I still want the Top Gear formula to continue.
