Just watched an interview with JED on Gills Player where he stated that Hadler will be second choice for next season, pushing Nelson for the starting spot. Fans of the clubs he's been on loan at have been hugely complementary of his abilities.

I'm really pleased about that. We've hardly ever taken on keepers at youth level, who've ended up as first teamers - either at Gills or elsewhere.

Sounds a sensible move. Good to give another youngster a chance - JED obviously thinks he's up to it. Also, means more money saved on wages and available for other positions.

Given the new rules on the loan market it makes every sense to me too.My only reservation is will he get enough live action to help his future development. I would expect that if Nelson were to have a injury we would be looking for a emergency loan keeper.Which I would guess will still be allowed.

I thought the new rules scraped the emergency loan system, only players signed or loaned during the transfer window could play.

I might have been misled if this is right.

The article was right at the time, i.e. That the emergency loan system was retained for the 2015-2016 season. However, it has now been decided that there will be no loans outside the transfer windows for the 2016-2017 season onwards.
