Everton ladies went one better than the men managed a year ago when they lifted the FA Cup at the City Ground.

They needed extra-time to overcome Arsenal 3-2 – a win which announces the club’s arrival as a major player in the women’s game.

They beat Arsenal 3-2 after extra time with 2 goals from Natasha Dowie – niece of relegated Hull boss Iain - and an own goal to take the trophy.

Mo Marley's team took the lead on 16 minutes when Fara Williams had a shot saved, but Dowie pounced on the rebound to score.

Arsenal equalised with a penalty but Everton went in 2-1 up at half-time after an own goal from Arsenal captain Faye White, who headed a Toni Duggan cross into her own net.

The Gunners drew level again after 55 minutes to take the game into extra time. With only minutes left Dowie raced through following a through ball from Brooke Chaplen and scored the winner.
