After missing out on the loan signing of Martyn Waghorn, Colin Todd has reportedly diverted his attention to Waghorn's Sunderland team mate David Dowson in a bid to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the new campaign.

Todd is believed to have taken in Sunderland Reserves' victory at Durham City last night and he was sure to be impressed with what he saw with the 20 year old striker bagging a hat trick in a 5-1 win for the Black Cats.

Dowson's only first team experience came at the end of the 2007/08 season with our League Two rivals Chesterfield. He scored three goals in twelve outing for the Spirites and it remains to be seen if Todd will be following up his interest.

In other news former Darlington goalkeeper Przemyslaw Kazimierczak has followed Rob Purdie and Pawel Abbott in joining Dave Penney at Oldham. Kazimierczak has signed a short term deal at Boundary Park.

Another former Darlington goalkeeper has also found a new club. After being linked with a trial return to the Darlington Arena, Sam Russell has signed a one year deal with Dean Saunders' Conference outfit Wrexham.
