Celtic? Where the Fox that?

For years the biggest meltdown on record was possibly that of Chernobyl followed closely by Kevin Keegan’s rant over beating Manchester to the title in the 90’s, but even the cries of him “loving it” have been watered down thanks to the advertising campaign of a famous fast food restaurant. Both these meltdowns now pale into insignificance when compared the Meltdown currently occurring between most Coventry City Fans, myself included.

With our beloved Sky Blues barely managing to limp over the finishing line last season, the Sky Blue faithful left there 2nd home of the Ricoh for what always seems to be a long and drawn out close season. The only two positives for the fans being that firstly we would get to return soon to our beloved Arena for Take That or Oasis depending how your music taste swayed or like most of us which one your girlfriend told you to take her to. The 2nd light at the end of the tunnel was the Manager’s and Chairman’s promise for improvement next year.

With just a few weeks till the start of the season the Sky Blue Meltdown is in now in full flow as Birmingham City again saving on fuel for their scouts sent them a short way down the M6 avoiding the expense of the Toll Road to the Ricoh Arena and snapped up our club captain. Along with the exit of Simpson, Marshall and Mifsud the usual revolving door of preseason seemed to be stuck revolving in an outwards motion.

With even the most loyal and optimistic of fans amongst us struggling to defend the recent departures Ranson could have eased fears by announcing a signing or two. What he did next was a masterstroke. He sold what for me was one of our most prized assets for as little as a battered mars bar and a can of Special Brew (which is what the term undisclosed is) from some club up north. I don’t blame Fox, in fact I wish him well. Going from possibly playing the biggest teams in the world in the FA Cup last year to playing the might of Livingston the year after has to be seen as a move up.

As for his dreams of Europe I can expect he will see more of Europe on his summer holidays than the yearly exit in round one to WTF Rjkcjajdjklkvic or any of the other small Polish teams that Celtic fans have come accustomed to losing to year after year.

But basically we have lost a Left Back whom scored more than one of our strikers last season, is an England U21 and looks to be replaced with a player whom is in his Testimonial year.

Again Ranson could have come out and assured us fans that it was all part of a bigger picture but that would have just been silly. Ranson knows how to work the fans and by leaving us all in the dark worrying for our Sky Blues future he has shown his intelligence yet again. You see us fans are so devoid of hope and desperate for any positive news for our club that when Ranson finally comes out to announce that they have just changed the light bulb in his office. City fans across the country will instantly cum in their pants at actually being given solid facts and details and once again Sisu and Ranson will be seen as Messiah’s. Christ I’d even take a return of Kevin Kyle at the moment.

Still let’s remain positive, if we’re lucky we’ll all have Swine Flu by the start of the season and Ranson will buy a shed load of Tami flu and store them at the Ricoh to get us to the opening game of the season. Where we will see Marcus Hall showing us that Danny Fox isn’t the only one who can blast in a free kick or two…….. Pass me the Tami flu love, I think the hallucinations have kicked in.

Play Up Sky Blues,
