Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle says he will not rush USA midfielder Stuart Holden back from injury- saying he has a 'big role' to play in the club's future.

Holden has been out for a month after picking up a leg injury whilst playing against the Netherlands in an international friendly for the USA.

And though the player sugested he was targeting playing again before the season was out, his manager feels othwerwise.

Coyle told the Bolton News: "He's a great kid and he's got a big role to play for Bolton Wanderers in the future.

"If he is ready, I will play him, but if he is not, it would be wrong for me to throw him in there and do something detrimental," the former Burnley boss continued.

Coyle conceded: "I wouldn't rule him out playing again this season, he has got a heart the size of a lion, but I can't and I won't jeopardise his opportunity, if it comes about, for the World Cup finals."

The USA are in the same World Cup group as England for this summer's tournament in South Africa.
