Bolton boss Gary Megson refuses to see a bad season ahead despite the openin day loss to Sunderland, and says nothing should be said until 23 games have been played.

The 1-0 home defeat did little to silence the anti-Megson section of the Bolton supportters but Megson has become accustomed to their cries, and says the team will not know what kidn of year they are in for until January.

Megson told the press: "Up until about halfway - I would say 23 games - nobody knows what kind of season they are going to have.

"Everton did not get the best of starts last year but finished in the top six- Hull made a great start but needed to check out the result on the last day to make sure they stayed up," Megson reasoned.

He went on: "Halfway through last season Tottenham were in trouble, then spent £50million in the transfer window and hey presto things improved a bit.

"Our opening day did not go as planned and it was a disappointing overall performance," the former Leicester boss admitted.

Megson also went on to calm supporters expectations ahead of the tie versus Hull after the Tigers were beaten 5-1 by Tottenham, stating that would only make it harder for the Trotters.
