Very sad to hear-we went along the road they named after him the other week at Stoke.

He had a great club career that I guess sometimes gets overlooked but he was definitely a legend and a lovely man.How others get a run on Knighthoods etc before the likes of him I'll never know.

My hero when I was a kid and even led to me having a "fling" with Stoke City when I was younger and foolish, remember nagging my dad to take me and my brother to watch him play for Stoke at Burnley (as I recall the Blackpool game was off that day but strangely Burnley's was on) it was quite cold and foggy and stood on the Bee Hole end to get a glimpse of the great man in a 1-1 draw I think - seems a lifetime ago!

Remember being quite upset when he had the car accident and lost an eye and that was the end of his career really.

Always thought it odd that he chose to stay at Stoke rather than moving to one of the "bigger" clubs but different times and loyalty counted for a lot back then.

One of the Giants of English Football but will always be remembered fondly by me.

RIP Gordon Banks England's Number One

Gordon losing his eye was a tragedy for him and the nation but it didn't stop him being an excellent golfer!

Used to run into him and his long time buddy and golf partner Roger Hunt playing a round or two at Portal golf club in Tarporley. And at the nineteenth a round or two would always be heading in the great mans direction as he enjoyed the banter with the members.

Lived out his later life in the small north Staffordshire village of Madeley where I'm sure the flags will be at half mast over the village hall today.

RIP to the goalkeeping legend.

I can remember seeing Gordon play for Stoke at Bloomfield Road in the year we spent in the first division in the early 1970's.
Memory plays tricks but I think we had already been relegated and, perhaps as the stress was removed, we played really well and Gordon kept Stoke in the game. I think it finished 1-1

The save forms part of the greatest piece of football ever. Starts at 48 seconds, the pass from the Brazilian player around our full back into the stride of the winger is magical, the cross is perfect, the header is textbook and the save is outstanding. A beautiful piece of football that I can watch over and over, its sublime.
