Aaron Ramsey - Juventus

Announced his four year contract with Juve is worth 400,000 per week [:O]

Ok, it's a free transfer, but wages totalling 83m over 4 years for an average player is ridiculous.

Good player but that is a lot of money for someone unable to regularly get in a team lying outside the top 4 in the premier league. Hes not that good.

No it's bonkers but I think he's one of the top midfielders in Europe and if it's a free transfer then it means the players cash in

If football doesn't start getting back to reality then I can see it and I parting the ways.

Its fast becoming nothing to do with the ordinary man in the street and beyond affordable too.

Agree with Plumbs. That kind of money for one person just to play football is not something I can relate to anymore so I won't contribute to it in any way shape or form - all being allowed to happen as though it's normal whilst we have thousands of homeless people struggling on the streets barely able to feed themselves. Society needs to wake up to what is really important.

I'm paying 500 quid for my Kop ST at ER and that's too much for Championship football, but at Arsenal and others it's over a grand.

The British game is traditionally one that includes away supporters but that's been eroded too.

Yet music artists who earn more don't get any grief.[rle]
Around 3 or 4 out of top 10 sportsmen highest earners come from football.[^]

It's an obscene amount of money; end of.

No longer the beautiful game.

Sickening really.

Allegedly on 80k a week at Arsenal, jumps to 400k a week at Juventus, not a bad pay rise that!
Good luck to him,the money is what it is,no point getting all sanctimonious about it.

What some on here seem incapable of grasping is that like most things offered to consumers its simply about supply and demand.

So the price of season tickets will only be justified if enough people are prepared to pay for them at the price offered if not the clubs have to reduce their prices or settle for half empty stadiums and if clubs overspend on players who fail to produce the necessary results then their fortunes and finances will plummet too.

The problem is that people in Western countries are now so deep inside the bubble of capitalism, that they now cannot think beyond supply and demand when viewing a situation like this. Take a step back for a minute and view it from afar. Is it the right way for humanity to live when millions of people are having to live on the streets, millions relying on foodbanks, and millions more unable to properly feed their kids whilst believing it's OK to pay one person more money than he can ever spend each week just to play a game? Time for a re-think.

I have sympathy for the wider perspective, but we have bigger fish to fry than what footballers earn in respect of global poverty.

The military-industrial concept is alive and well and without imposing price caps and reintroducing 'proper' market intervention the redistribution of global wealth isn't going to happen. Look at all the furore around 'economic growth' only being 1.2% earlier this week. It still means we have collectively consumed more natural resources than we did last year, yet it's used as a stick to suggest is all it's all about a democratic decision to leave the EU. It could equally be argued we should be looking for managed decline to make life more sustainable.

I think in order for us to state that 400k/wk we would need to completely change the economic system and I'm not convinced it's going to happen. Different metrics for growth to include happiness, living well etc.

Apart from Arsenal, whose management withdrew an offer that was on the table for Ramsey last summer, another entity losing out on the absence of a transfer fee is Cardiff City. CCFC had a sell-on clause for Ramsey when they sold him to Arsenal for 4.8mill. Assuming a sell-on of 10-15% of the profit from a 60mill fee, they might have lost up to 8mill.

Cardiff are missing out due the unintended consequences of Bosman.

The deliberate running down of contracts to the detriment of the current club was avoidable.

I'd rather the player got the money than the chairman or shareholders of whatever team he is playing for.

The question is how did that much money into football in the first place? The whole game is on a mad course, its unrecognisable to the 1980's and in the next 20 years will have changed as much again.

These teams might be named after our communities but they don't represent them anymore, they dont have local players anymore, they dont even need match going fans anymore.

They are global TV brands.

If you support your team the same way you did 40 years ago, you are kidding yourself.
