Oldham boy (Chadderton), Oldham season ticket holder, United and England legend.
Yes, my mate in Oldham is giddy, just for some good news after nearly 30 years in the doldrums.
It may work out, look what Gerrard is doing at Rangers and Lampard at Derby.
Or, it may not.
For now my mate will walk into the ground for Schole's first game with a big expectant smile on his face.

Dreaming of when I can do that again at Bloomfield.

I wonder when we’ll get the first posts from the football geniuses on here telling us he won’t last till Easter like in the same way the same posters said Barton wouldn’t last till Christmas [rle]

Good appointment for me.

I have/had connections with Oldham for many years and always follow their results.
I want them to win unless they're playing BFC.
Went to Boundary Park quite a few times in the late 50s, in fact my daughter was born in BP Hospital.
Hope they do well under Scholes, I reckon he might get some good loanees at the next transfer window.

Is PS not part owner of Salford City FC with his mates? If SCFC are promoted this season they will be in the same league as Oldham. How can you own one club and be the manager of another? Surly a conflict of interest! His loyalty must be to the club you own?

Nowt wrong with Oldham. Hope they do well.
Good luck to Scholes - the best midfielder England have produced in forty years IMHO

That Matt Williams guy will have a stiffy over this. I wonder if he'll take the Chief Exec job? [:P]

Scholes and Barton can't be compared.

One was a world class footballer who won every honour. The other is Joey Barton.

Scholes is also Oldham born and bred. This is a big job for him emotionally.

Joey at Fleetwood...does he like fish?

I have a partially irrational dislike of Oldham.
Firstly their ground is one of the coldest places on Earth.
Secondly I remember their constant bucket shaking whenever we played them only for the club to spend spend spend ala Bolton come transfer window time.

I wish him well, but he's not one of the world's natural communicators, is he?

An appalling post from Wizz given that the last trawler is being towed away soon.

Had he no sole?

Not sure how he thinks a team who are 14th can be play off contenders this season but I wish him well. Hope we don't have to return to Oldham anytime soon though.

Cracking midfielder but as BRR2 says, not sure he has the communication skills for the job and may well fall into the great player/doesn't translate to great manager category. Seems very critical from what I've seen of his commentating.

Boundary Park not only makes me shiver because of the Weather but that fateful day in 2000.
Sugdens 89th minute equaliser sends us down.
Remember the fans mocking us too!
I suppose we had sweet revenge in 2006.

Whether he's a success or not doesn't really interest me.

However, I certainly don't blame any Oldham fans for getting giddy or maybe feeling optimistic. I've read enough similar posts on here about giving former Pool players jobs at BR.

Dont write off Curzon Ashton just yet although some of the Oldham fans are saying they'll never be rivals.

Last match of the season next year. Oldham mid table, Salford need one point to avoid relegation. Hmmmm I wonder.

He's given up the directorship but retained the shares at Salford. EFL say no conflict as a result

I hope he does well with them. He lives in the next village over from me and I see him in the pub and coop fairly regularly. Always seems a decent, down to earth bloke.
