An inspired signing as Fred neared the end of an illustrious career. Only scored 17 league goals that season, but averaged nearly a goal every other game for the Pool. The easiest hat trick he ever scored, created by the brilliance of Suddick Burns and Hutchy.

A brief England career, but scored three on his debut. How many can say that?

What a night at Dungdale when Big Fred scored his hat-trick. Another great night was at Bloomfield Road when Fred scored the equaliser against arsenal in the FA Cup replay, coming back from 2-0 down to beat them 3-2. The last time I saw Fred was when Pool played away at Birmingham, Fred came on the pitch at half-time, but the music was so loud, he couldn't hear the Pool fans chanting his name.

They said Blackpool is the place you oughta be
So he moved from Birmingham to be by the sea

RIP Fred ...from another who was there on THAT night.
The sweetest victory any 'Pool fan could wish for and
it was still in the days of integrated crowds which made it even sweeter.
It was pre M55 so both Preston New Road and the Freckleton marsh road were rammed and there were big concerns about making the kick off especially when we saw the massive queues when we arrived at the ground.
Another earlier memory of big Fred is him playing at left back at the beginning of his career at Blackburn before being converted into a centre forward with instant success with his power packed shot.
Apart from that his Wikipedia page is spXXXXXX for a man that ended up as an England international.
