Thought The Rigby group have bought the land plus Airfield?

Probably close the whole area like they have at Coventry for development.

Worth a few quid I'm led to believe.

Surely it would be easy to check via the Land Registry? I thought the training ground site was a protected zone in the Council plans for sport / recreation use?

In the planning docs #15/0657 on Fyldes website for new building

it states

'The site lies within the statutory Green Belt but the new building satisfies the requirements of planning policy, in that it is a replacement of an existing facility and is also an appropriate facility for outdoor sport or recreation.
Furthermore, in any event it is also cconsidered that if it is considered necessary, there are very special circumstances that indicate planning permission should be granted. Accordingly,
Fylde Council are requested to grant planning permission to allow development to commence as soon as possible.'

It is also classified as TREC14 - Playing Fields in the council local plan.

Rigby Group do still hold the "management contract" for Blackpool Airport according to their website.
As for green belt land not sure how "protected" this is under current Government policy. Councils are under a lot of pressure to lift restrictions to solve the current housing crisis. It's happening big style around North Manchester.

It will get built on.

Blackpool Airport on such a scale is dead. That will be a game changer.

I seem to recall that the Pontins land could not be built on because of the flight path. That site is now expanding to the end of the runway, so SG is meaningless in green belt terms.

Luckily, we won't need it[:D]

Blackpool airport is going to be re developed by the new owners (Rigby group) the runway is going to be extended and a new terminal will be built nearer the main runway and new taxiways will be built as well more land will be taken up by the enterprise zone with new businesses moving In. You heard it first, Bookmark this by all means. [;)]

According to their website, they currently own and operate Norwich, Exeter and Coventry Airports and hold management contracts for Blackpool, Solent and City of Derry Airports.

Runway extended?

I realy hope that is true because it is crucial if we are going to get anything like long haul flights.

The trouble is the East end of the runway stops at an embankment and the West end has housing.

SG's main runway is 1,869m whilst Manchester has two at 2,999m.
I can't see them extending by a full Kilometer.

I seem to half recall that fc, but how, a raised extension?

I suppose it would be safe if all long haul landings were approached from East to West.

The runway at Manchester has a tunnel underneath which links the M56 to Wilmslow.
This is chiefly down to the second runway.
Fortunately for us they can't land on runway two ..take offs only...otherwise they would probably fly in right over our house which in the early morning or late at night is not recommended. We do get them going out from the original runway when heading out towards Stockport and then turning South for Spain and the Canaries.
Not great at this time of the year when they are leaving at 6 in the morning.
One has just come over ..and I mean literally over..our house about 20 seconds ago.
The thing is you just get this urge to fly somewhere when that happens!
