Despite everything I still want to watch BFC, so a short trip to Southport was an ideal opportunity to have an early look at what next season might offer.
Also despite what some say I do recognise the majority of the players and I do like what Gary Bowyer is creating on the pitch.
As for today, 2 different teams for each half and a combination of the two will probably start against Bradford.
Briefly I was very impressed with Jimmy Ryan, played just in front of the back 4 and controlled everything, (Richie Wellensesq!!!). Matt Scafton bigged up Max Clayton and he did OK. More to come, hopefully.
Neil Anderton at LB looked very composed and impressed going forward.
Ollie Turton at RB was less impressive.
Peter Hartley at CB is a leftie, I think [:I],
and will probably be a new Aldo.
Williams in goal had nothing to do but was very vocal with his defenders.
First half the game never really got much above walking pace.
2nd half started with 11 changes.
Trialist GK looked very young and made one save that he parried back into play that led to their goal. Can't see any point in signing a young keeper when we have two already with Boney and Sims.
Mid-field trialist played deep and I thought he did very well. Probably worth a punt.
Curtis Tilt is the new CB. Did nothing wrong but I don't think he will be first choice.
I have to mention Bright. I accept that pace is "king" when playing against lower league opposition but he did look the part today. If he has aspirations for bigger and better things I'm looking forward to him proving himself this season.
Overall I think with another GK and 2 more in mid-field we should be able to hold our own in League 1.

Good report agree with that,no disrespect to Southport but you cannot come to any conclusions with that level of opposition.

Agree with that. Decent run out for players trying to get fit and develop some understanding with new team mates.

Before I went I was thinking we had no midfield but the two lads playing in front of the back four in both halves did their respective causes a lot of good. Ryan was outstanding at both delivering a pass and also awareness.

I agree with all of that.. Pretty much exactly what I said when leaving the game. The only thing I would disagree with is Nick Anderton at left back... Thought he looked lost, non descript. Jimmy Ryan though... Class above anything we have had for a while. The midfield passer and controller we were desperately missing. Big season for Bright... Keep improving as he has been and he'll be a hell of a player.

Just back too.

Ryan first half ran the show and second half Bright was our best player.

It was only Southport though.

So you're saying that on the evidence I saw that despite it being only Southport and that Ryan looked a good player, I shouldn't say it.

Ok, got ya.

I thought Southport's keeper in the first half had a decent game, made three or four decent stops.

Ryan was definately impressive and agree woth what has been said on this thread.

I honestly feel this team, when it knits, will be OK for division 1 but can't see it gaining a position above half way.

It was nice to see the style of football Blackpool were playing rather than the kick and chase footy that seem to have been the norm over the last few seasons. No doubt Bowyer is putting his style in to the lads.

The very worst kind of football supporters are those who think that the likes of Southport are beneath us and our attention.

It's the kind of thing we all (rightly) despise Man United fans for .

Correct BRR2 it's a pre-season friendly both teams getting there fitness levels up.
Every team in the land plays against clubs in lower divisions than themselves they don't spank them 6-0 every game.
I don't know why people bother if you having nothing decent to say.

Banda

Of course we know it was only Southport and it proves nothing as to whether Ryan will prove himself with us although to be fair he does have a pedigree as being good enough at L1 level.

But look at this thread another way. If a few people on here had said that one of the new players had looked absolute garbage then you wouldn't have been saying " it's only Southport" would you? More likely, your comments would have centred around it being another freebie and Oyston doing things on the cheap. Of course, those comments would have been true just as much as ours are that Ryan looked good yesterday.

With regard to Ryan. He first touch his control and reading of the game and the accuracy of his long passes wer the things that stood out. You need ability to do those things well, regardless of the quality of the opposition.

I think we have a few goalscorer in the side and if Potts and Bright stay then some exciting outlets elsewhere - defence will probably cost us but has done the last few years. I'd like to think top 12.
