Theres no easy fixture in the Premier League

Before kick off in the Norwich game, the talk on the terraces was not about the game ahead, but about the next 3 games. With Arsenal playing three matches before Tottenham played next, talk was about how we would be 7 points ahead of them when it comes to their fixture at home to Manchester City.

When will people learn, football is not this easy. If everyone was supposed to beat those they were supposed to beat. Lose to those they were supposed to lose to. Football would be a very boring sport.

Before the Norwich game, I was cautious. I tweeted "Yes, we should beat Norwich, but the result is not a given. Back the team #ComeOnYouReds". We should win, and we did win, but my prediction was correct. There are no easy games in the Premier League.

People seemed to forget last year's corresponding fixture. a 3-3 draw in which Norwich lead 2-1 for 45 minutes. If they could draw with us last season, why were we expecting an 'easy three points', as some put it, this season?

I am an honest believer that predictions are pointless. There is never any point in doing the BBC Premier League Predictor, as you will get the results gone. there is no point saying 'We will be 7 points ahead of Spurs come there next game' as the chances are we will not.

Do not believe me? As with the Norwich game, where we drew last season, and lost away earlier this season, our remaining games do not make positive reading based on last years results:

Everton (h) - 1-0 victory

Fulham (a) - 2-1 defeat

Manchester United (h) - 2-1 defeat

QPR (a) - 2-1 defeat

Wigan (h) - 2-1 defeat

Newcastle (a) - 0-0 draw

In the corresponding 6 fixtures last year, we got 4 points from 18. If you add in the Norwich result, it was 5 points from 21. So people EXPECTING us to get 9 from 9 from Norwich, Everton & Fulham is clearly an over estimation. People looking at our remaining fixture and thinking ‘Bar Manchester United at home, we have an easy run’ are wrong, on two points.

1) Why are we expecting to lose to Manchester United at home. Lets back the boys and look at it as a winnable game

2) Just because a game is winnable on paper, it does not mean it is a guaranteed win on the pitch

And the worry is when the fans look at the fixtures and think "That is an easy 3 points" the players are probably doing the same thing. And that is dangerous, as it tends to translate to a lackadaisical below par performance on the pitch.

Whilst I am still positive. I still think we will finish 3rd. Maybe even 2nd, we must be cautious. Do not count your points until they are on the board. If anything, the Norwich game is a wake up call for us. So close to a defeat should reiterate to fans and players alike.

No game in the Premier League is easy.

Your analysis was spot-on.The remaining games should all be treated like cup games to get the best possible outcome from them.Spurs who have the more difficult games but can actually make the best out of it.We have to fight through all the games, sensible article... COYG!!!!
