We were ideally placed to go on a cup run....in a great place in the table and no reason to send out a second string side.

Going far in the cup was exactly what we needed, but it's gone.

Unfortunately, Pulis chose to play sluggish Myhill when there was no need to do so and that - combined with wasteful finishing - cost us dearly [rle]

Bent's first goal looked to be straight at Myhill and he just stood there for the second, FFS

Agreed.[:(!]
A decent cup run is far more preferable than a mid-table finish!

I didn't see the game today, but our back-up keeper ought to be up to the task, so I had no qualms about Myhill playing before the game. If he's no longer good enough, we should replace him with someone else, but seem to prefer offering new contracts in such circumstances instead....

I know that 1 or 2 players were left out in anticipation of probable loan moves, but our bench today highlighted just how threadbare our squad is. Without several quality signings being brought in during this transfer window, we're always going to be one injury away from having major problems in key positions and I think that's unacceptable.

I was bemused that Chadli (who most pundits would regard as being our best player, although he seems to be off the pace since returning from his injury) wasn't brought on until the 79th minute. He should have been brought on at the same time as Robson-Kanu once we fell behind.

In general, our spectacular failure in cup competitions under Pulis does seem to be more than a coincidence for whatever reason. My take on this is that we only have one way of playing so, if the opposition don't play ball by attacking us and allowing us to try to catch them on the break or from a set-piece, we have no proper Plan B and become ineffective.

Pulis talks a good cup run, but perhaps doesn't have the tactical versatility to deliver one.

I agree with BAWS about Myhill and don't think either of the shots would have been goals had Foster played. That said I do not place Pulis for the result. Had enough of the ball and enough chances to win comfortably.
