Everything depends on the England Ghana friendly. More than any other game this season, tonight's is a make or break. Bruce himself will be watching with bated breath. With so many Sunderland players in action (other clubs players have withdrawn) a few injuries could ruin what is left of the season.

A friendly for England could turn into a nightmare for Sunderland. A defeat by arch enemies Newcastle is irrelevance  this season as Sunderland coast above them with a superior squad and set up. Only a friendly against Ghana could give the deluded Newcastle fans a hope of finishing above Sunderland.

The problem being that there's nothing the club can do but watch.
