The Lilywhites have clawed their way into the play-offs with a surge in form demonstrated this weekend with a comfortable 2-0 win over Bristol City.
Deepdale may have been foggy, but both teams started brightly and the Robins actually had the better possession in the early stages.
But the hard-working Ross Wallace crossed for Stephen Elliot who slid the ball into the net on thirty minutes.
Wallace was further rewarded for his industry when a deflection took his own shot into the City goal in the fifty-fourth minute.
Preston are now sixth in the league after a big improvement in form and results whereas Bristol City have slipped to fourteenth.
Preston boss Alan Irvine:
"We can't get carried away. The Championship is so tough and so tight. There are so many hard games coming up and I'm already starting to think about the next one.
"The lads are feeling good about themselves. They know as well we have the majority of our squad fit again, and that's great for us. It gives us options, strength on the bench and in the stand.
"We knew we would have to be right defensively and hopefully that would provide a platform for us."
Bristol City manager Gary Johnson:
"We've found ourselves dropping down the league a little bit and we'll have to work very hard over the next four or five games before Christmas.
"We created early chances, like we did in the Watford game on Tuesday, but we didn't take them.
"We're not having a great deal of luck but we were also too powder-puff in our finishing.
"If you don't take your chances when they come along in the Championship then the opposition teams are good enough to put you under pressure and make you pay."
