Rose left Northampton after they got promoted, who do we think might be let go from Pompey?
Linganzi is 27, is he going to get better, is he good enough to start each week?
Burgess worries me at times, looks great most of the time, good ball player, might better players take advantage of his lapses? But he is young enough to get better.
All our younger players out on loan. Do we loan them to div 2 next year?
Will we keep Chaplin or loan him out til christmas maybe, can't see him getting starts and he is no longer a teenager

New Keeper
New Right Back
Burgess
Clarke
Stevens
New Midfielder
New Midfielder
Bennet
Naismith
New Right Winger
New Striker

Our team as it is will be midtable next year, but I reckon Cook will strengthen those areas.

Rose was only at Northampton for 4 months, and chose us over them. He is more than capable of stepping up to Lge 1 IMO.

Most of the rest of the squad are better suited to Lge 1 than Lge 2 so I don't see many departures from amongst those who have been playing regularly. Unless of course Cook goes, in which case we could lose nearly all the players who are out of contract in the summer and would have to start from scratch again.

Do you think he will keep Evans?
I agree regarding midfield, think Doyle may well retire on a high. Think Rose is an excellent player but may well stay in div 2 once more.

Both will be required.

One aspect of the way Mr Cook operates is that he does not alter things dramatically, and why should he after achieving the momentum that he has.

He has added to his squad with players that have the capability of growing in stature already, and 2 of them look more than capable of holding their own, the other has had about 2 or 3 minutes. Forde has had a good season and played behind the tightest back 4 in the Division. Having competition for him would not be a bad thing. I cannot see Talbot getting games, so another Right sided Defender wouldn't hurt for more competition. And there are a couple that have had even less of a look in that might go.

Only 1 or 2 new players needed.
A younger version of Forde, but if not available, then I'd be quite happy with him for another season.
One of the main differences this season has been a regular fearless keeper coming out from crosses.
So that just leaves us needing a regular striker who can play like Eoin Doyle in Cook's favoured formation.
Main nor Smith or Chaplin can't do that.
Hopefully Doyle could return with young Kabamba as backup, learning all the time.

Wayno game is all about opinions innit.

Picked this little gem up from one of the County forums for you. [;)]

Burgess, their #6, best centre half in the division

Yes, I'm sure he will keep Evans. One of the big-
success stories of the season and can play midfield or defence (and take penalties !). Probably get another right back as competition though.

Doyle is a harder one though .. he is out of contract and I would offer him another year, but like Davies he may prefer to go elsewhere to get a longer contract. If he went he would be very hard to replace, as captain as well as as a player.

That's a fair point about Doyle, I'm not sure how he'd do in L1 at his current age, but we'd certainly miss his leadership if he left.

Personally think we need a new keeper, RB, CM (alongside Rose who I think could do well in L1), and striker. And wouldn't be at all surprised if we lost Enda, although naturally I hope he decides to stick around.

Other than that though, this side could do ok in L1. Challenging for playoffs has to be the optimistic aim.. I'd be happy with mid table though.

McNulty is too similar to Chaplin IMO .. I'd rather the money went on an Eoin Doyle type player.

I reckon a goalie (Forde is only on loan ), rt back, a couple of midfielders (to replace Doyle & Aborah) although I fancy May to break through from the stiffs and a couple of strikers to replace Hunt & Doyle. As someone mentioned it is possible we could Stevens to a Championship club.
I'm also expecting Lowe to play a big part next season, however I think Kambamba (?) will only be a squad player

I think Force has done enough to earn a contract - he's probably the difference between success this season and the failure of last. I guess Hunt won't get another contract. Davies, Talbot and Smith will be moved on if there any takers. I guess Cook will stick to 4231 so a specialist lone striker will be needed (Eoin Doyle if funds allow). I guess Doyle'll get one more year.

In fact, come to think of it Saveloy, all I've seen you post since we were promoted is your standard vitriol against anyone and anything that you remotely disagree or have a problem with.. what made you so bitter in life? Or is this just your place to vent..

I still find it weird people rate Evans at RB. His attacking side from that position is not questioned, but he isn't a defender and that has been shown over and over again this season. Plymouth did their homework in the last home game and their goal came from Evans position. I'd love to see him in his rightful position with a true RB coming in, I have no doubts he'd weigh in with even more goals.

As for the rest we have a team "currently" that could compete but it definitely needs strengthening.

The likes of Baker Doyle and Forde simply aren't good enough for that division at their ages. So for me these 3 all need replacing and we need more strength in depth across the squad. Linganzi is definitely good enough and league 1 and his game might even be better suited to it, just as Paul Cooks overall style might, where more skill and less hoofball is on show.

not sure we should ditch all the old heads, but probably aim to have no more than one or two out on the pitch at the same time. I've felt that our midfield with Roberts, Doyle and Baker can lack a bit of pace at times. Quite happy with Doyle plus one of the other two, with the other one on the bench for a bit of experience to help "manage the game" near the end,

I reckon all the players that have played this season who are out of contract will be offered new deals and I can see all of them staying. I reckon a new one year deal for Doyle, linganzi and Evans plus two year deals for Bennett, stevens and whatmough. Not sure who else is out of contract but can't see the likes of O'brien or many of the youngsters being kept.

I think a few who are in contract will go, talbot, main, possibly even Baker (back home to Coventry) to free up extra wage slots.

The main thing for me is keeping the majority of this side together and adding just the vital parts that we need.
A team consisting of Forde (if we sign him), new rb, burgess, Clarke, stevens, Doyle, rose, Evans, naismith, Bennett and a new striker would be more than good enough to compete in league one. Players like Roberts, Lowe, linganzi, whatmough to come in when needed. Just add in a few extra players to compete for places. The last thing we need is to have a complete overhaul and almost start again.

Also feel the striker department is where our main focus should be going. Our top league scorer this season doesn't even have double figures does he? Naismith? Imagine if we had someone who scored 15/20 goals this season. We would have won the league by a mile.
