Giving PH a chance!

Both here and Fratton Faithful seem full of posters claiming Hart should be sacked now.

In honesty, he kept us up there year, taking over a team with no confidence or team spirit. He has basically not been given any form of pre-season (players leaving and constant uncertainty) and the whole team was concerned about the future of the 'business' as a whole.

Only now, from tommorow, has he been able to field a 'Paul Hart' team. IMHO he should be given at least till November to see how his team plays and whether we can form a team capable of not just avoiding relegation but actually compete within the league.

One point, mainly to the people who post that he plays "boring/negative tactics", do you actually watch the games. Both home games we have played neat, attacking football. Away - Brum didn't want any football played and Arsenal is always a tough place to go. I actually enjoyed the Man City performance alot more than most of the games from last season.

My problem may be that I don't like to see fault with Pompey and even in the dark months of this summer I've spent many hours being optimistic while most people were squirming.

Tin hat at the ready [;)]

I'll give him a chance now he has more player options, but i think loose or draw saturday and the walls will close in very fast.

Of course we're going to support Hart on a Saturday etc, but can anyone honestly see long term, Hart being a success. He's in his 60's and hasn't achieved anything as a manager really prior to us, so I can't see that all of a sudden we've unearthed a gem.

Best case scenario, he steadies the ship, we progress till January, SAF brings in a new manager and keeps Hart at the club. I want Hart to go back as Academy boss because I think he is brilliant at that, but that bridge has been burnt IMO

So you thought we were attacking against City with one up front until the last 10 minutes?

He's a bottler, rather play for a draw than play for a win. I hate managers like that. If he's still the manager in a year it will either be because we're in the Championship or SAF really hasn't a fooking clue! Look at his record, lost 8 out of the last 10 games mostly against medicre opposition without scoring hardly at all.

I'll give him 5 games then that's it. Might be too late by then though.

neat, attacking football!? With three holding midfielders? Only putting a second attacker on with 5 minutes to go when losing at home?

Yes, there has been lots of neat sideways passing, but absolutely no penetration, and the few times we get men in the box and as a result offer a threat, we miss chances because the midfielders we are playing are terrible in front of goal, as the very few, if any, career premier league goals they have between the lot of them in many, many, games shows.

Any manager that thinks you can survive playing three holding midfielders with no goalscoring credentials is an absolute disaster. 451 only works with midfielders bursting forward and scoring...we are trying to play it with no goals or penetration from midfield, and with a totally isolated front man.

Keeping up a team containing Kranjcar, Crouch, Distin, Campbell, James, Johnson, Hreidarsson, Davis et al up, when they weren't even in the relegation zone upon taking over, is simply not an achievement, and however much Hart talked about it being a fight and struggle does not change that. If it was a struggle, then he clearly isn't a very talented manager.

He has tried his three holding midfielders formation 8 times. It is yet to record a goal. The fact that he doesn't see it as a problem shows just how stubborn and clueless he is, and if we give him until november, it will already be too late. There are no indications that we will have the money to get out as we did a few years ago. We can only survive if we are competitive throughout, as we don't have the quality to go on a great run to catch up and get out.

I agree, Hart's tactics have made us look solid and has created enougth chances to get points and even win games, Pompey fans have short term memories, we were crying out for more solid displays under Adams.

I have watched all home and most away games under Hart and he is fundamentally negative and boring.

Last game to take of Smith and Freddy and to leave Hughes on was criminal and he should be sacked for that alone.

Last year when we could have gone for it at places like Stoke, Hull and secured early PL survival but he would not/could not change it.

I hope he starts winning but most games under Hart have been XXXXXXe and that is probably the main reason people don`t want to go.

when we were safe, he still played negatively.

I don`t think he has a fooking clue about trying to get the team to entertain us ffs.

Even Adams put teams out to attack at home.

What did Redknapp achieve before he came here?

Jury is out on Hart for the next three games. At least he has HIS team now, full of players that want to play for Pompey rather than Harry.

I know it's a cliche ....

but football is a results business.

He needs a win tomorrow (or draw minimum), otherwise the pressure will become intense and the clamour for his head will grow.

If we win, the pressure will be eased ... if we lose then with 2 difficult games against Aston Villa and Everton coming up he could be gone by the end of the month.

SIMPLES !!!

He's got his own players now, and a winnable home game coming up ... I will be giving him and the team my full support on Saturday.

Unfortunately, I feel some so called fans have their own agenda and may even be wishing for a defeat. I really hope I'm wrong on that one.

FWIW .. I like Paul Hart, he has a very dry sense of humour, is a real football man and has handled himself with dignity through a very difficult period.

But as I said tomorrow is crucial for him. A
win and the pressure will be off, a defeat and he could be gone by the end of the month.

Unfortunately no matter how optimistic we all are, the moment the team is announced there will be that FFS moment as the formation & personnel are revealed. Shall we call it the M&M moment.

Paul Hart is a crap manager end of story. Bishiuk what rubbish you talk about being more solid and creating enough chances to win those games, Yak is right, there are no goals in the midfield as yet so why bother playing 451?

If he plays the same negative way tomorrow then his time's up. Even if we win I won't be convinced by him, you don't suddenly become a good manager overnight when you've already had 3 or 4 bites at the cherry and failed.

What gets me is the way people say what a good bloke he is for sticking around in difficult circumstances. Yeah I'd stick around too for 1million a year!

spot on, Yak!! I'd be prepared to give him a little longer than this w/e, give the time needed to bed down new players, but if we're still not getting basic points at home in basic games in a couple of weeks, it will be clear to everybody - surely - where the problem lies.

His team now as he keeps saying! Tomorrow against Bolton if he continues his 4-5-1 formation & deoesn't win the game then he has to go! If he plays 4-4-2 & tries to win the game with attacking football give him until the end of the month then judge after 3 games.

well nugents XXXXXX & kanu can only give us 25 mins every other week normally

coupled with the fact that he only had mullins, hughes, basinas, brown & kranjcar to choose from in midfield

i think its very fair to say his option were well limited
