COLORADO RAPIDS 1 - 0 NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION

Just like the 2007 campaign, Colorado Rapids are off to a hot start after defeating New England Revolution in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Rapids newcomer Nick LaBrocca was the hero as he netted his first league goal of the season as Colorado won the match, 1-0. LaBrocca played collegiate soccer for Rutgers University before Colorado drafted the versatile midfielder in the 2007 MLS Superdraft.

New England Revolution will be left with many questions to ponder following their offensive dominance throughout the match. Despite out-shooting Colorado 17-4, the Denver based club found a way to win thanks to a gritty defensive performance. Rapids goalkeeper and Senegal international, Bouna Coundoul, made several fine saves throughout the match to preserve his second shutout on the campaign; his first being the 4-0 win over Los Angeles Galaxy in the first week of MLS action.

Gillette Stadium, the home of New England Revolution had an attendance of 8,300. The field conditions were very slick due to rain before the match. The weather conditions in the Boston area could have had an impact on the low attendance for New England’s second home match of the season.

Colorado improved to 2-1-0 for 6 points, with their only loss coming at the hands of Kansas City in a 3-2 thriller only one week ago. Colorado currently holds the top spot in the Western Conference Standings. New England fell to 2-2-0 for 6 points and 4th place in the Eastern Conference Standings. Los Angeles Galaxy face Toronto FC at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California on Sunday, rounding out the league action for the week.
