I was kind of hoping he would stay at arsenal a season and we could or a bid in when we go up.

Crystal Palace bid £16m for arsenal defender Calum Chambers

He will be great signing for them at that price when you compare the fee to that of other fees being paid this transfer window.

Yep would snap their hands off to be fair, a lot of years in him and while he makes a few errors so does everyone, good investment

If we'd stayed in the prem then I think he would have joined us on a permanent deal. Ah well...

Thats what we offered last year before the loan was agreed.

Better player than Gibson & Keane. In today's market if you could get him for less than £20m would be good business.

Another player we developed for another club and got little out of it.

I know Inwould probably be saying different if we had stayed up and then signed him.

But not sure about this loaning of players from top clubs, it seems like a one sided arrangement to me because you are not getting a fully fledged player.

The Telegraph article says arsenal paid 16 million for him.

Holgatecorner - I get your sentiment, but you have to say Bamford worked for us in the champ as a fantastic loan signing so it certainly can work.

Cheers Norman. If he's rated, why would arsenal sell him, effectively at a loss?

It shows the depth of squads - he never gets a game for arsenal and they paid £16m for him - he is probably worth £20m plus some add ons in this market.

'a one sided arrangement to me because you are not getting a fully fledged player.'

...plus, loaners come with strings attached, they have to play X numbers of games or similar. It ties the managers' hands. This must conflict with a clubs aims of going all out to get promoted or stay in the PL.

"...plus, loaners come with strings attached, they have to play X numbers of games or similar. It ties the managers' hands." -- that's nonsense, they can try and write in clauses that you pay more if a player doesn't play enough games, but most clubs won't sign up to that, because of the impact of injuries or a player having a poor attitude.
