AFC Bournmouth v Middlesbrough Fc 1987 - were you there too

The two runaway teams in the third tier 1986/87 though we got our XXXXXXs kicked 3-1.
Good game though with both teams eventually getting promoted to the second tier.

Yes - remember that match well. It was a long trip for a night match especially on the back of the previous Saturdays defeat at Swindon.

Capacity crowd, torrential rain and a cracking game despite the defeat. One of many memories of that remarkable season.

There was a thread on the Bournemouth messageboard last season and they were discussing the best ever atmosphere at Dean Court and that match v Boro won hands down.

I went to Dean Court for a Boro game in 1992, Jamie Pollock coming on as a late sub in a 2nd leg league cup match, the game went in to extr time, i'm sure John Hendrie scored the winner

Which one was the one when it rained so hard they moved the standing fans in the seats so there was 3 to a seat. Wouldn't be allows now ?

The 87 game was a big big crowd then. Lots of boro students down there as BR were doing the £4, £8, £12 return offer.

I was there, I stayed down after the Swindon game on the Saturday, we were in the seats in the corner of the main stand.

The torrential rain game was 89/90, it was a 2-2 draw, the downpour created a flood at the bottom of that main stand as well.

yep ! - I was there 3 or 4 of us drove over in a white van..

there was a persil voucher / British Rail promotion on that month, so people were on the 'persil' express at circa £8 a return ticket !

I think there was 3 price ranges for train journeys £2, £4 and £8....

I was in a pub and loads of boro came in and a lad said to this bloke "you made it then?"

- and the feller replied "told our lass I was just nipping out for a gazette, booked into the B & B down the road" - the whole room was crying with laughter....[:D] even the landlady and bar staff were giggling

Swindon away the previous Saturday & then the south coast on weds. Put some miles in that week. Trevor Aylott was it up front for them? Put Pally & Mogga through the mixer that night. Remember getting home at 6 in the morning freezing in the back of a white van. Those were the days

He got sent off against Bristol City at AP for downing the player who had pole axed Colin Cooper, Hodgy was in the 2nd of his 3 game ban

True. Dave Hodgson was sent off for taking out a player who had also downed Colin Cooper, that's what DH told me once

"He got sent off against Bristol City at AP for downing the player who had pole axed Colin Cooper, Hodgy was in the 2nd of his 3 game ban"

Probably misread your comment Erimus but how do you get sent off in your second game of a three game ban?

I remember Hodgy came on loan from Norwich just before that run of two games away at Swindon then Bournemouth 4 days later. We lost both of course and the Bournemouth game was on March 2 - we didn't lose again for the rest of the season. At that Bournemouth game we lost a really good game. I recall sitting in the side of the pitch for that game opposite where we will be sat today. And yes I recall Hodgy really put it about and was booked. Then as mentioned in the next game against Bristol City he got sent off - think he was sent back to Norwich before the season end but certainly don't recall him playing again that season or ever again for us.
