Jonathan Kodjia to Boro?

Massive fee paid by Villa for him in pre-season. Banged 19 goals for them but they have struggled to progress.

Do you think we would have a realistic chance of signing him pre-season?

Would you want him?

It would need to be 15 million + but if he scored 19 goals for us he will go a long way to securing promotion.

or will Gestede & / or Bamford get a similar total themselves as they did 2 years ago.

Villa will be challenging for promotion next season. No chance they will let him leave let alone to a promotion rival.

Promotion rival [:D]

Firstly although we are to be relegated in all probability, it is a huge leap of faith to suggest we will be promotion rivals to anyone just yet.

So much change is needed imho. The 64,000 dollar question is will it happen?

No chance, Villa are a bigger club with a decent manager who will be challenging for promotion next season.

God knows what we'll be doing.

Fair enough, unfortunately I agree with you. No idea what to expect in the summer. [:D]

Why didnt we try and sign him in the first place rather than Gestede?

They actually rate him

The promotion race will be very very hard next season. A number of teams have shown great strides this year and will want to push on next season. The teams coming down will have good money, but selling clubs will want their cut of that and inflate fees.

I worry for teams like ourselves. Sunderland will find it even tougher i suspect. Hull or Swansea if relegated will do much better i suspect..

Should've been signed from Bristol City.

Exactly, too late. Looking from outside in, would you come to Boro?
Do you think any Villa players, or Derby, or Sheffield Wednesday, Birmingham players would?

We need attacking midfielders rather than strikers in my opinion.

Come on . I know we've had an extremely disappointing premier league return , but players won't want to sign for us - rubbish . Vast majority of players in the championship would jump at the chance . Yes prices will be inflated but they'll come .

Need midfielders and forwards IMO. Need 6 or 7 new signings IMO.

Were Villa so much bigger when we signed Ehiogu, Southgate and Boating from them?
All in their prime and with best years to come.

13 years in the top tier of English football and two league cups within the previous 10 years prior to us getting Southgate.

8th, 6th, 6th, 7th, 5th and 4th in previous 6 seasons. They were a big club.

Best case I think we need 5 players - New CB, New 2nd choice RB, New LW, New RW, New CF.

This is based on us selling Gibson, 1 from Foreshaw, DeRoon or Clayton, Ramirez & then the dross like Barragan, Stuani, Fischer etc. I honesty don't think we will have a full scale sale whereby the likes of Valdes, Friend, Ayala, more than 1 from Foreshaw, DeRoon or Clayton, Traore, Downing etc. all leave. We might get 1 of 2 more names added to that list but all will bring fees which will allow us to sign quality championship level replacements.

He's a good championship striker but I have faith in bamford getting plenty goals next season for us once a
He gets a full pre season in a run of games, gestede should be hitting double figures in that league also. It's wide players we need to be splashing the cash on and a number 9 if we line up that way, unfortunately we are going to be a 20 - 25 mill investment to go back up hopefully offset from the gibson sale

We do need a striker as Gestede and Bamford or not main strikers who will bang in 25+ goals we need a top striker eg Tommy Abraham from chealsea on loan or buy him.

We need:

Possibly a keeper if Valdes goes, although he has made murmurs about how he loves it here, which sounds like he might stay

A CB to replace Gibson

A first choice RB

A goalscoring/creative/number 10 CM

A RW

A LW

A striker to get in behind

If we do OK in the recruiting, getting most of those, we will be up there.

I think Fabio and Barragan is enough cover at RB for the Championship. For all Barragans bad press the other night, he was up against Sanchez for 80 minutes and did alright, bar that walk about for the second.

We have striker to get in behind in Bamford, but we don't play him. Instead, we go for 2 target men.

It all depends who leaves, but I'd like to keep as much of the squad together as possible. We all know we need to bring in two wingers though, one for each side.

I'm interested to see what Fischer can do. A manager who could bring out the best of him, he could be massive asset in the championship.

If we have a firesale of most of our players we'll be facing a tough task of integrating a whole host of new players into the squad.

My point is Bear that they were deemed a bigger club back then too, but it didn't stop us being able to sign their players.
Just as it shouldn't do now.

After the Brighton game last May I was hoping Karanka was going to instruct the scouting/recruiting department to hunt for midfield and wide men who possess pace and power and instead we got Stuani on the right, Fischer/Downing/Ramirez on the left and 5 midfielders with neither pace or power.

January came, and it was our last opportunity to remedy the situation to some degree and we wasted the opportunity and a fair bit of money in the process

I think it's pretty likely that he did ask for those type of players and for whatever reason we just didn't/couldn't get them. He even said in January that's what he wanted.

As long as the new manager wants him, don't want another Rhodes/Karanka scenario.

Do we need him though?

Is the difference between him and gestede worth the 15m he would cost? Not for me it isn't.

We could get assombalonga for much cheaper or I'm hoping we could tempt benik afobe from Bournemouth if they don't fancy him, he's a machine in the championship.

would expect villa to win the league next year, wouldnt have thought he'd come here! Assombolonga (spelling) maybe, although I'm sure we're scouting Europe to un-earth some more rough diamonds which we will no doubt be unable to polish!

Spot on Linardi . We need players for whatever reason deemed not quite premier league but top drawer in the championship. Bit like gayle at Newcastle for example . Offer them the money & they'll come .

Assombolonga is struggling to get a game for Forest (who are fighting relegation). He's also incredibly injury prone. I'd keep well away from him.

Wouldn't be massively surprised if Gayle is available in summer, geordies will probably spend big on French strikers again.
