I'm stunned and distraught to hear the news. So young.

He was a wonderful player - always a towering presence in our defence, and was completely heroic in Cardiff - the greatest day in our history and the finest day of my life.

He looked so strong and scary, yet his smile would light up the stadium. He and Gareth were our best ever.

My heart goes out to his family, friends and colleagues, who must be in total shock.

Ugo and Southgate, the best CB pairing Boro have had in my 26 years following, probably ever as far as my knowledge stretches

RIP Big fella. Fierce competitor on the pitch, total gentleman off it. A great role model for any young player.

I can remember a member of the coaching staff reciting a story to me way back of how Ugo gave him his gold Rolex to mind during a training session having forgot to take it off before leaving the changing room. When he remembered to ask for it back a good few hours later he was told it was "its still in my training kit, which is now in the laundry" By the time they got to it the kit lady had already loaded all of the kit into an industrial washing machine. Ugo's response - "Ah no worries man, it is supposed to be good for 300m in water. That washing machine cant be more than a metre deep at most".

Top man!!

Always remember the defence we had when Southgate was bought by McClaren. Queudrue n Schwarzer too with Big Ugo. It was virtually perfect.

Absolute legend in my eyes. We're lucky to have had the pleasure of watching him play for our club when 'so called' bigger clubs would have loved to have him in their side.

As telepathic defensive duo as you're ever likely to see, Ugo n Gareth.

Truly gutted. Rip Ugo

Normally stuff like this doesn't phase me but this genuinely left me shocked, saddened and knocked for six. Really sad news, he was one of our greats and I feel lucky to have witnessed him playing for us. Him and Southgate were an incredible partnership, one of the best pairings the prem has possibly seen, definitely what Boro have seen. Genuinely gutted.

It just seems SO unfair. That a kind, gentle man like him doesn't get four score years and ten. A last act of kindness in that tweet.

True legend.

This is so sad.

Got a big shock when i heard it announced on Radio 4 today at work.

I didn't even know he'd been taken ill yesterday, so i was totally shocked to hear the news [|)][sad]

So sad for the young players that he coached and everyone else at his club, his family and every other fan of clubs he'd worn the shirt for.

RIP Ugo, Boro legend. Smashing service to our club.
