Good enough for some

Decent?? Abysmal in th the first half, gave the ball away countless times.

Slightly better on the left, and at last put some balls in the box but dissappeared again in the last 10mins. Same old same old......

It must be completely soul destroying to be Downing, Traore, Fabio and Barragan and several others. They put so many terrific balls into the box but Negredo cant be a*sed to make any attempt to get on the end of them.

Beast? he is a total wimp.

the 'over hit ' crosses needed some one to read them and get on the end of them, it wasn't the crosses that were the problem it was no one getting into the sort of positions that Fellani got in for their 1st.

Downing picked out his passes all day - pretty good I thought

"Balls into the box"

Are you actually having a laugh, or are you Downings dad?

If you had said, good cross field passes to the man on the right tiuchline, who wasn't actually there, I may have agreed with you.

Awful.

And he's meant to be the best crosser at the club, or so I keep seeing!?

Downing could score a hat trick and get a 10.0 score off the pundits, people on here would still say he's terrible.

Thought he had a good game which was just as well, he needs to do his talking on the pitch.

The frustrating thing with Downing is he has to cross the ball in with the outside of his foot at times now due to him not being able to beat his man. Some of the balls he put in were decent, one of them Negredo should have been on the end of.

He kept going obviously suffering with the pace of the game, effort. As energy bar or similar was thrown to him with about 15 mins to go and looked as though he was starting to cramp up by the stretching going on.
His crosses were over hit as they always seem to be so my question is why don't Gestede or Negredo go beyond the far post to run into the cross?.

The service into the box today was dire. When the crosses were half decent we had Negredo, with all the anticipation of an intoxicated alcoholic, throwing himself around after the ball had gone. Most of the crosses were too high. Unless we have Negredo fitted with a Raving Bonkers extendable neck then it's unlikely he'll add to his underwhelming tally this season.

Howay truck, think about that.

Going further from goal is not the right option, delivering better crosses into the goalmouth is required.

You could see the plan second half, Downing put crosses in to the back post and Negredo was meant to head them down into the danger area. Unfortunately the only one he got his head to was the one that resulted in the goal and I assume that Traore was meant to cover but he was never there. I noticed Negredo and Clayton telling Traore he was meant to be there.

I've been a harsh critic and I thought Stewie played well. Actually his best couple of crosses were those wicked outswingers with his right foot in the first half, that I didn't know he could do. Looked more comfortable on the left and what a difference it made having him as an outlet to sling balls into the box from deep to Rudy, Negredo and De Roon for the last 20, though they were mostly hopeful punts. But good to see him holding his positions out wide, playing the odd classy touch, passing back and retaining possession when needed rather than all the time, and to see him impacting the game a bit. Pleased for him.

I like that system with Downing holding one wing and Gaston or Traore playing free or centrally. Gaston did what he wanted first half and Traore was central a lot. Makes the best of all their skills - Stewie's crossing and the other two's dribbling / creativity / x-factor. Subtle tweak from Agnew but a good one.

Our problem today was Espinosa and Barragan. Espinosa so poor, tortured for pace and positioning by Rashford and Lingard. Gibbo's defending for two and being the ball-playing centreback who plays out sometimes, shows his quality. But it's no coincidence since Espinosa has played consistently our form has gone off a cliff, we're so vulnerable down the right.

Were a little bit off key, the crosses, but good to see them back. It did seam UEFA Cup-esque the way we started putting them in. It was good to see.

Downing will always have his detractors. He did during the first spell here.

Saw a woman on the Gazette page yesterday blame him for 'the backpass' when Valdes fell over.[cr]

What on Earth is his positioning at throw ins all about?

He constantly stands in space in front of the thrower, but allows the nearest player to receive the ball, which is where the first goal started from.

Mark a man not space!

Fabio passed it to Downing, does he get credit for the goal,Traore made the first run does he get credit?

The ball was knocked down then cleared, DeRoon is the player who got the last Boro touch before Rudy put it in.

I did wonder whether part of the general tactics of the one up front is to cross with an emphasis on hitting it farther with the guy on the other side coming in.

Even the better crosses are aimed at the back stick.

He's frustrating because he has so much ability but he rarely plays to his potential. Hopefully SA can get the best out of him.

What an awful thread this is.

After watching Downing yesterday it was clear that he brings some much needed balance, width and quality to the team. He put in a number of quality crosses, switched the play well and was often looking for the ball making himself an option. Yes the game is all about opinions but that's the first attacking intent I have seen in a Middlesbrough side for over ten games.

Adama needs to work on his positioning and make runs for the box when the opposite winger is in possession.

There's constructive criticism and then there's just ludricous mud slinging

Just my 2p worth [^][^]

Said it elsewhere since the game...he played pretty well, he put the crosses in - some a bit awry but so what?

He wasn't epic but he did a job and we'll score more from his efforts crossing if we have people in the box and ready to get on the end of them.

Get behind him and the team as a whole and stop looking for targets to blame for every damn thing.
