Just been given approval ( or something along those lines )

Have you seen it ?

One of the ugliest new stadiums I've ever seen [V]

I'm all for being creative but it offers nothing aesthetically.

Seen a few more of the CGIs in last week's Building Design and was not impressed at all.

To be honest think it is f.ooking awful. May work well internally, but outside its rank.

The crater. That's a nice nickname for it.

Wonder if they had to make it fit in with local houses that's why they've made it with bricks, after looking at those photos I think it's pretty cool.

I think its brilliant in its own right, even more so when you consider its not a blank canvas and has to work to the current stadium footprint.

Its unlike anything else I've seen and will become instantly recognisable.

I thought it looked like an 80's ashtray. Maybe they were from the 70's but people still had them in the 80's!

I don't really like it all. Sometimes you can 'split opinion' but I don't even think it's down to taste. The whole thing makes me feel nauseous looking at it and the busy-ness of the lines make it an utter eye sore.

The Allianz Arena, Sports City and Wembley looks infinitely better. I'm all for breaking new ground in design but they could at least take the more aesthetic elements that work on other stadiums rather than do something completely different but looks horrible.

Delighted another hurdle has been jumped and we CAN (after being told it was impossible to redevelop SB) stay on our home turf.

Stadium design looks magnificent to me.

horrible looking from the outside looks like a prison or a nuclear station but it seems like it will be excellent for noise effects from the crowd, maybe this was taken into consideation . definately needs some sprucing up colour wise . very morbid visually.

Despite the fact that it looks like a giant egg-slicer, I like it.

Also, the use of London stock brick is a really nice touch too.

Interesting that it's from the same people that did the Allianz. As for the earlier comment that the Allianz is infinitely better, have you actually seen it (the Allianz)? It may look OK in the photos lit up at night or against the only bit of greenery in the area, the wooded hill 200 metres away on the other side of the autobahn, but you visit it on a cold day in February it's nothing more than a XXXXXX big draughty box with Allianz written on it planted on some waste ground near the U-bahn depot. Next to the autobahn. And it's distinctly ordinary inside.

I've not been to the Allianz Arena but at least it actually does look good in some respect. That new Chelsea stadium seems to break every rule imaginable in terms of design.

I've found a couple more photos that look a little less sickly but I still don't understand what the idea is with all those lines?

Flat surfaces and curves work miles better on stadiums like that!

It is if you're Roman and want to lock your money in concrete.

But it's also the American thing: if a stadium's 30 years old, knock it down and rebuild it. Though rebuilding to look a bit like the Berlin Olympic stadium is a bit iffy. Still a nasty club with rsole fans.

Yes because the old stamford bridge ground will last forever won't it?

And if you think it is only 20k more seats, you clearly haven't read about the proposals in much detail.
