| I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 laptop but have long since lost any CD that might have came with it for a full system restore. Its getting old and slow, having been used as a work laptop for three years or so, but with a reformat will be a decent little backup laptop. However, not sure how I can reformat it back to factory settings without the CD that came with it? I dont even remember if one did, as some laptops have a seperate part of their Hard Disk that is used for the system restore. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Cheers folks ![]() | |

| Does it have a CD/DVD drive? If so and you can get into the BIOS you don't need the original disc you can you boot from a bootable CD and reinstall windows that way. Alternately just clean up the installation already on the machine, remove unwanted programs from the add/remove programs menu , run ‘msconfig’ check the startup tab and untick anything that doesn’t need to run. If you are not sure what should be running just google the .exe to find out what it is. | |

| If you have a XP disc you can just re-format then see what drivers you need and download then from the Toshiba site. If you don't have XP it can be downloaded ![]() | |

| You can (entirely legally) extract the install key from your current install (google for key extractors), or it may be printed on the Microsoft sticker on the underside of the laptop. | |

Go to a good torrent site. I find Black XP to be the best version. Comes with a few progs installed. You have to burn it as a bootable ISO disk, Easy with MagicISO![]() | |

| Just did a quick search and it looks as though it needs to have 3 or 4 DVDs to burn it to! My laptop isn't particularly powerful so not sure Black XP is way to go!! What do you think? :) | |
