Thursday, the 18th of December, saw United in Japan taking part in the World Club Cup. The match against the host nation Gamba Osaka saw United struggling from jet lag as Ferguson admitted to struggling to sleep with the time difference. Despite this United came out and played a good game. Vidic the ever present United scorer from defence managed to open the scoring for United in the 28th minute and Ronaldo secured United’s second just before half time leaving United with a two goal advantage. Yamazaki responded with a goal for Gamba Osaka in the 74th minute though United ran straight back to the other side and Rooney slotted one away for United returning the 2 goal lead. Fletcher added to United’s tally 3 minutes later in the 78th minute and Rooney with his second a minute later in the 79th minute. Gamba Osaka then returned and turned up the pressure on United through a penalty in the 85th minute and a third goal in added time. United progressed to the final.

The Sunday before Christmas saw United taking on Liga Deportiva in the final of the Wold Club Cup. A hard fought match for a big prize fund saw United slip ahead with ten men through Rooney in the 73rd minute. Vidic’s dismissal meaning he misses the next round of the Champions League. Rooney though securing the $5million top prize for Ferguson with a single goal in the final.

Boxing day saw a relaxed United travel to Stoke though United only managed to edge ahead after Stoke’s Wilkinson was sent off with 2 yellow cards. Tevez obliged with a goal 11 minutes later in the 83rd minute saving the day and bringing home all three points for United. 7 yellow cards in total though clearly showed the quality of the refereeing who was over happy to flash his cards about to anyone and everyone.
Stoke 0 - 1 United (Win)
Monday, the 29th December, saw United hosting Middlesbrough who have often caused upset for the bog four teams and often enough for United. Despite a good performance from the Teesside team Berbatov gave United the victory with a solitary goal in the 69th minute.
United 1 - 0 Middlesbrough (Win)
United completed December as World Cup Cup winners and without a loss, they did however drop 4 points. United finished the month in 3rd position 7 points behind leaders Chelsea with 2 games in hand.
