City boss Phil Brown has revealed he has spoken with the Manchester United manager about Fraizer Campbell, but admits he is no nearer sorting out a deal for the striker.

The club are keen to recruit Campbell, but he has impressed for United in pre-season and Sir Alex Ferguson is keeping his options open, although a deal for the striker hasn't been completely ruled out.

"I've had a lengthy conversation with Sir Alex on Friday and he's promised he'll keep me up to speed with things," Brown told the BBC.

"I can only sit and wait and can't force anyone's hand and I'm not prepared too. He's a Manchester United player and he did a great job for us last season and we'll be there waiting until that door is firmly closed."
