Like the rest of you, I'm quite excited by the signings that we have made this season. O'Hara looked classy last night and JET is clearly an asset.

Here's the but...... when you play a formation such as Swindon's last night, which is hell bent on shutting down the game, you need to have a plan B.

In recent years, that would be a McGlashan or Dickenson giving us some width and pace. This season (so far) we are bereft of both of those ingredients. We seem reliant on Konchesky and Jackson providing the width, which is a pretty tough ask considering the fact that they are playing in a flat back four and are both naturally defenders.

Furthermore, in JET we have a genuinely tall Centre Forward now, so whipping in crosses should be a successful form of attack.

We looked most dangerous last night on the rare occasions that we did have genuine width (the goal was a great example) so I would love to see us adjusting the formation occasionally and perhaps give a player like Elliot List a chance to use his pace. I also think that we lack a genuinely quick winger.

It seems to me that we are oversubscribed to central midfielders and lacking in genuine wide players who can beat a man and whip in a cross.

Don't want to appear like I'm moaning, as the squad looks generally sound.

On a separate note, I have never rated Nelson as a goalkeeper and have always stuck to my belief that the majority of Gills fans over-rate him. I love his passion but he is awful at coming for crosses, hesitates to come off his line and seems to struggle with low shots. I've seen nothing this season to convince me that I'm wrong and wonder when Hadler will get his chance?

We played the system we did last night as we had no strikers so it was a case of keeping compact. We have four key players out at the moment so a draw was a good result for us considering the players we had missing and with no strikers.

With Jacksons pace I feel he should of just knocked the ball past the 2 or 3 players he had on him, and gunned it. About 4 or 5 times he tried to run through them with the ball, and it was never going to happen.
Not to say he didn't have a good game though.
The lack of width might of worked better had JET pulled the defence around instead of just standing around waiting for ball to feet all the time. Also his constantly dropping very deep just made the congested midfield even worse.

Thought that would of changed to day with Jackson back in the team.
What was Pask thinking of. It looked like he deliberatly hand balled it. [V]
