| We may have a clearer idea about Hess's starting XI after tonight, and a lot will depend on formation; but the one area where we have real options is midfield - especially the central attacking role. Weston was the main man under Stimmo, but he seriously underperformed last season. Both Spiller and Rooney will be pushing for his place. In fact, I think Rooney could do really well "in the hole", because of his eye for goal. Hopefully the competition will raise Weston's game! | |

| Quite agree ... we have a lot of competition in midfield with Spiller (who Hess clearly likes a lot), Rooney, Weston, Maher, J. Payne and Andy White (striker or midfield???). Plus those who could also serve in defence as well as midfield in Bentley, Palmer, Jackman, and even Trigger? My guess is that on the 7th August we will have a 4-3-3 formation with Spills, Weston and Rooney in the middle, with a front three of Barch, McCammon (time to prove himself) and McDonald. The bench will be fairly strong too. | |

| it seems to me that our attack is going to be quite strong this year, but without king, our defence may be quite weak. We have now a host of attacking midfielders and strikers but I am not too sure about our defence and the defensive midfielders. I can see Jackman needing someone with some height next to him, and I do question whether maher has it in him for this season. Payne looks good, but again - he's tiny. Would bentley play well in a DCM role? And then the defence I would say is quite weak without King. Hopefully now Richards has a full season under his belt he should be better in this league. For me if we could sign a good CB and get rid of Gowling it would be a great move and one which would probably turn our team in to one I could see challenging for 1st place. A good CB to play with Richards until king gets back (if in deed he does) would be handy, and then have him and richards fighting for 1 place if/when king is back. Maybe a nice loanee from a championship club? N.b. I think the full backs are probably strong enough. all of this does depend on whether hessie manages to get more out of last season's players than stimson managed and more importantly take the home form to away matches with us! | |

| Weston is definatly key to our season as on his day and playing well, Curtis is way above the level he will be playing at next season. The bloke can be worryingly inconsitent but if he can play really well every other game then im sure we can do well this season. | |
