As the season draws to a close Chris Colemans Coventry side need to just two more points to secure their best ever points tally since Coleman took over the Sky Blue reins.

After getting thumped 4-1 by Charlton’s youth team on the last day of the 2007-08 season our saviour, Ray Ranson stated "I hope that we can give them (the fans) a team to shout about next season. And, while I am at this club, what happened over the last few months will never happen again. I fully expect to be competing at the other end of the table with the type of players we are looking to bring in this summer."

While not quite competing at the other end of the table Ray certainly has given our fans a team to shout about. In fact I’ve heard quite a few fans shout about the team in the two seasons since he made that statement.

It was a hearts in our mouths day that day as the fans were faced with us slipping into League One and Ranson and SISU faced the Goose being plucked and stuffed.

The promise of better times justified after finishing 21st on 53 points in 2007-08, Chris Colemans Sky Blues smashed that barrier by finishing 17th on 54 points in 2008-09 with Colemans self proclaimed “number 1 target” Freddy Eastwood repaying his managers confidence by banging in 4 goals for the Sky Blues that season.

This year sees the progress continue. Still with two games to go, City fans find themselves sitting in 16th place with 53 points already in the bag just two points off Colemans greatest season ever while at the helm of the Sky Blues. Exciting times ahead indeed for all City fans. If, and it’s a massive if, Coleman can continue the progress we have become accustomed to I can think of no better way to celebrated my 63rd birthday by reaching the play offs in 2026.

So come on you Sky Blues, the glass is half full not half empty and let’s get behind Coleman, Ranson and SISU. After all, they did save our Club.

A word of warning, Preston North End and Bristol City both sacked their managers this season while sitting in 16th place. (now sitting 14th and 11th …)
