Mexborough cut in half

The new HS2 line will cut Mexborough in half going right through the new Shimmer housing estate.
I think we should support the town just like some of their ex residents have supported us.

The whole HS2 scheme is flawed, IMHO.

It's supposed to be a pathway to the North for Londoners and a way for business people to be able to reach London and beyond in shorter journey times.

If this is the case, why doesn't it go to St Pancras to allow us Oiks from the north to travel to the continent by train?

I say us, I will be kicking up daisies by the time this has bankrupted the country.

HS3 is far more important than HS2 but I'll wager it won't be built.

I totally agree that there is much more need for HS3 to replace the current farcial system.

Is it something in the region of 32 billion to knock 25 mins off a journey? complete waste of money and another way to rip us off with over priced travel

I agree with the comments above. An unbelievable, stupid and completely flawed scheme.

Just think what 30bn could realistically do to improve infrastructure alone. And here's the science bit, Hinckley Point funded by the French (EDF and French Govt) costing less.

Personally it's decisions like this that show in total clarity why these 'people' who make these decisions will be the Bull in the China shop of a 100% self decision making post Brexit UK.

Grrr.....

The West and East Coast lines have reached saturation point. No room for freight.
Just look at railways on the European Continent and they are miles ahead.
I remember the moaners harping on about The Channel Tunnel and HS1 being a White Elephant.
I am sure there was opposition to the construction of M1 and M6 too. No need they were saying when we could improve the A1 and A6 and bypass the towns.
The country needs this line.
At least the fracking protestors will be able to move on to the likes of Mexborough now!

No Mr Mex, I expect you to Die!

Enough of that nonsense. We pioneered the railways, why not wait a few years and be the first to develope this new tube system which will propel people from A to B at 700 mph and make passenger railways redundant, and at half the cost.

Mex, you are about the same age as Brian. Did you go to school with him?

Bring it on. The sooner the better. My big question is why does the building have to start in London? Start up North and the construction business gets a boost where it's needed.

CC. No you cheeky monkey.

But he did go to school with my auntie Rita. He lived on Probert Avenue in Goldthorpe. My mum and her family lived in Sankey Square, which is off the avenue. Mum was about 10 years older than him.

So there. Never told you that before did I.

And he also doesn't drink.

Mex I am impressed by the family connection to the great man.
If Wikipedia is to be believed Mexborough has more than it fair share of famous people for a town of its size.
Haven't you thought about contacting them to add your name to the list?
I am actively campaigning for my name to appear in Thornton's entry.

It won't be cut in half. 20 metre high viaduct so you'll be able to go under it[;)]

In a 100 years it will be like that into Durham or over Ribblehead

The M65 was built on on the folly that it would create investment into the Blackburn and Burnley economies. Guess which way most traffic travels at peak a.m. and p.m. times

HS2 is bonkers. By the time you've bought a cup of tea, scratched your @rse and read the Metro that extra 20 mins has flown by enabling one to do a bit of work or have a kip and arrive in or home from dat London fresh as a daisy. Total waste of public money.

I got the train to London a few weeks back. It took 2 hours and 8 minutes, all I could think of was 'I wish this journey was 25 minutes quicker'.

Complete waste of money, job creation scheme and Tory vanity project.

Where is Jack when you need him to point out it ain't just about passenger numbers or shaving time off your travel but it frees up lines to move more freight or do you want everything to travel by road etc.
Bring it on jeez nearly all rich countries have a modern rail service where our's is way behind.

As I mentioned on my 17:17 comment, they were objecting to construction of Motorways.
We don't need them and modifying existing roads will make little difference in journey time.

We would be f@ked if we had listened to them!

You don't need to travel with email, video-conferencing and eventually, virtual reality meetings. HS2 is such a 20th Century world view. It will only be of benefit to tourists going down to London. Me? I would prefer to go to the far north away from the crowds.
