I spoke with Doug from LOFT yesterday.

His team is facing an HMRC winding up order on Monday ... All because of unsuitable owner(s) and the utterly useless governance structure within 'our' game.

I said I would stick this on S.M. for him.

He's a great lad (like most decent football fans are) and is doing whatever he can to help save his club.

Exiles - please contact your local MP's and request their support.

BST has already contacted our 5 local MP's and will provide feedback on their responses ....

Hi again all

Our local MP and External Director of the Fans Trust has tables this Early Day Motion
That this House notes with deep concern that a winding-up order has been served on Leyton Orient FC by HM Revenue and Customs due to non-payment of taxes by the club's owner, Francesco Becchetti; further notes Mr Becchetti's highly dubious business record, including a criminal investigation by the Albanian Government, and his incompetent stewardship of Leyton Orient FC; notes that a venerable and well-known community football club is now under threat; and calls on the Government to enforce a genuine fit and proper person test, ensuring that any prospective or current club owner's ability and willingness to pay creditors is robustly checked on a regular basis.

http://www.parliament.uk/edm/2016-17/1059

Hopefully we can put yet more pressure on the powers that be

Can you all encourage your local MPs to sign this please and spread the word to others in our football family

Doug Harper

LOFT Chair

LEYTON ORIENT FC
Session: 2016-17

Tired and weary retrospective moaning.

The club is done for as it has overspent and is crashing and burning.

The "fans" should buy it and run it as has happened before. The sad fact is that fan run clubs rarely work and generally drop like a stone.

At least we have genuine fan representation at board level at our club by a committed and balanced group that is involved in the decision making process.

A shing example to all the done for clubs out there.

What can the FA and EFL do about errant stupidity, mismanagement, supporter backed glory chasing and putting the club at risk.

There are severe penalties for such actions that "fans" whine about when they are applied.

Time for people to accept the fate of poor behaviour, you can't have it both ways.

I am sure we would have far more respect for those complaining before the event rather than with the usual huge dollop of hindsight.

That's a staggeringly ill-informed rant there AVTB. This is a proud and decent club with supporters to match ; and they are blameless in this crisis, which has been created in its entirety by the club's owner.

He has throughout shown scant regard for his responsibilities towards this part of the East London community, and has his incompetence in the workplace partially shielded by an overly-indulgent parent. Does that remind you of anyone?

Orient's fans are now faced with the prospect of themselves having to put their club into administration on Monday (and thus almost certainly condemn it to non-league football) as a means of escaping something much worse.

i hope the FA and the FL are shamed into doing something, but I'm not holding my breath.

They will be none league whatever happens, I have little respect for demonstrations that take place after the horse has disappeared over the horizon.

The fans aren't at fault for any clubs mismanagent the clubs board or owners are.

What I don't get is the culture of its not our fault dont punish the club, how will that ever bring about better management if there is no sanction for poor management?

The fans should either buy the club via a proper offer rather than a none offer or sit back, watch the car crash and try and pick up the pieces to show how a club should be run.

Sadly the fans haven't shown how a club should be run yet but roll on that day eh?

AVTB

I suppose it depends upon what you think a "proper offer" is. The club is the best part of £10m in debt, four fifths of which has been created by the current owner, as I understand it. You don't suggest the fans should foot the bill for his poor stewardship, do you?

As for sitting back and watch the car crash happen - that is not something that people who love the club would do - they would rather step in to shield it from harm. I doubt that is a concept you would understand.

I think it says a great deal that, having created this problem with the HMRC, there is real doubt about whether he will actually turn up on Monday to face the music at all. I think it would be pretty cowardly if he doesn't.

You should do better homework Tom and see which of your examples if any are what you say they are.

I would tend to have the view that a club heavily subsidised isn't in the category.

The debts run up that belong to the club need to be discharged if they are classed as football debt. That was one of the measures put in place to discourage mismanagement.

I think we broadly agree on the issues and their resolution other than when intervention can or should occur and if the new regime pays for the mistakes of the old.

Look on the bright side a destitute club is cheaper than a soundly run one. I fear they are done for though.

Greedy owners will always do exactly as they want, especially if the club is cash rich, but sadly for LO, this is not the case.

I hope BASIL have a few members who could perhaps join them on their protests and anything else going on.

BRR... Fantastic main post there and couldn't agree more mate.

I don't need to undertake in depth studies of each club to make a general observation
All these Trust owned clubs have been born out of adversity and have difficult issues to manage
AFC have created a club to fill a vacuum and have successfully steered that club to mid table Div 1 in record time and current sit above the club that was snatched away from their community and parachuted into Milton Keynes
I am not aware of their finances but there is nothing to suggest they have hocked themselves up to achieve that
Portsmouth's ST have seemingly galvanised the town and stabilised a sinking ship
They have done that whilst paying off historic debt, carrying out improvements to the ground and TG and whilst making a modest profit
Exeter I know less about however in general terms I understand they operate on a sustainable business model taking into account what they have available to them

Sent to my MP today - do feel free to cut and paste.

LEYTON ORIENT FC - EARLY DAY MOTION

Dear Ms Alexander

I am sure that you are aware that this proud old football club are the subject of an Early Day Motion in the House soon. I do hope that you will be able to give that EDM your support.

I have written to you on a number of occasions about the plight of my own club (Blackpool), and you have been good enough to take an interest every time. In Orient's case, their circumstances are very different from Blackpool's, but the backdrop of inept and disinterested ownership that has scant regard for the obligations inherent in owning one of our oldest football clubs is exactly the same.

I hope you will condemn it as and when you are able ; and that you will continue to support the wider fight to bring the football authorities in England to book for their hopelessly ineffective stewardship over our great national game.

Yours sincerely etc….

Rox- exactly and it's fair to say that if anything these issues have brought the football family together.
That said Leeds fans felt isolated as both other clubs and the FL stuck it right up em,and where punitive measures became the way to go ie let bad owners get away with it.

The EFL of course decided that the Arabs at LU were fit and proper and their outstanding debt is 30 million which still has to be paid.

The problem really is at the EFLs door and of course the FA who have failed to act consistently.

Plumbs. It's the fault of both the unscrupulous owners AND the inept regulatory authorities.

How many times were we told "it's a private limited company; nothing we can do". Which is precisely the point; there should be another layer of safeguards in play, over and above the Companies Act, that recognises the unique status of football clubs as a community asset. And that is entirely within the gift of those authorities if they choose to impose it. But they don't have the will; or the balls.

Oh: and wasn't KO actively involved with aforesaid regulatory authorities for quite some time? Says it all really.

Good point on KO who decided that LU should be punished for not being run properly, and of course subsequently the other clubs like Rotherham and Bournemouth
Rotherham were run by owners who took the ground and 'golden share' and should have been the last of this sort of nonsense, but for some reason the authorities still get it spectacularly wrong.

LUs Arab owners btw were rubber stamped after a letter arrived from the Sultan of Bahrain* who said the new guys were bonafide; never checked or followed thru by the admin at EFL.

Some of you just aren't at ease unless perpetually miserable and fighting some cause that's lost or zip to do with you.

On the bright side the fact anyone is happy with a useless sop EDM says it all.

Big day today for our friends from Orient.

I'm sure the decent, fair minded football supporters of this fine northern town along with its many exiles will join me in wishing the O's supporters good luck today.

We will hopefully be in contact and will provide updates.

There is a lot of uncertainty as to whether the man-child Bechetti will even bother attending or sending a representative. Just imagine it was our club - many of us would feel helpless and sick with worry.

As promised the page link confirms that Blackpool South MP Gordon Marsden MP has signed the EDM - updates regarding responses / actions from Menzies and Wallace today - Smith and Maynard are restricted from signing owing to ministerial responsibilities - that said they can send messages of support.

The FA and the FL fiddle why Rome burns. No comment - maybe the health and wellbeing of clubs is beyond their remit ? Maybe its the health and wellbeing of owners and sponsors that really matters to these redundant institutions ???

If Guy Fawkes was the last man to enter the House of Commons with good intentions when will somebody be making a similar visit to the FA and the FL ? - only joking obviously ... (heh heh heh heh heh ...)

THIS IS THE TEXT ....

LOFT has launched the Leyton Orient Regeneration Fund with an initial target of £250,000 to be used in one of a number of scenarios. Read on for latest news, background detail, fund governance and how to donate.
Latest fund news
Thursday 16 March 2017 - we've passed £100,000! Even after the weekend's bucket contents - over £13,000! - were banked, the fund has kept growing. We've now passed the original target we planned to set before our members told us to aim higher. Thank you for your support!
We would like to remind those wishing to donate that the fund gets 100% of your donation if paid directly to our bank account or by cheque, but a fee is deducted from your donation by PayPal or GoFundMe if you use those methods. See below for details on these fees.
Background
Leyton Orient Football Club faces an uncertain future. Its current owner, Francesco Becchetti, has indicated he is willing to sell, but the asking price may put off potential buyers due to the level of debt he has built up to (we believe) other family companies during his ownership - some £10m+ is owed in total across the club and its holding company.
Administration, or even liquidation, cannot be ruled out - despite Becchetti's recent cutting of the playing squad, there is a very real risk that he may simply stop covering the losses the club currently makes. Indeed that now seems to have happened, following the announcement on 1 March that a winding-up petition has been served on the club.
While the best solution to Leyton Orient's situation is for Becchetti to sell the club as a going concern to a new owner, LOFT's remit as a supporters' trust means that we have to plan for the worst. To that end, LOFT members passed a resolution on 2 March 2017, approving the setting up of the Leyton Orient Regeneration Fund with an initial target of £250,000.
The fund would be used to help regenerate Leyton Orient FC (or, in the event of liquidation of the club, a successor ‘phoenix club’) in the following scenarios:
Negotiated sale of the club involving LOFT
Administration
Liquidation
The proposed uses of the Fund are set out in the monthly standing order - at sort code: 08-92-99, account number: 65070198, account name: Leyton Orient Fans’ Society Ltd (t/as Leyton Orient Fans’ Trust)
By cheque payable to Leyton Orient Fans' Trust, sent to LOFT’s registered address: 20 Market Place, Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey, KT1 1JP
By donating to our GoFundMe campaign (note that each donation is subject to a fee of around 8% when we withdraw funds)
By PayPal, clicking on the button below (note that each donation is subject to a fee of 1.9%-3.4% plus 20p, charged immediately to us by PayPal):

Cash and cheques may also be put in official Regeneration Fund buckets where available at matches or other events. If you want to talk to us about making a corporate or other larger donation, please email us at lofanstrust@gmail.com.
Fund governance
All donations received (net of any charges levied by PayPal or GoFundMe) will utlimately be transferred to a separate bank account held by LOFT. The fund will be maintained by LOFT until such time as it is needed for one of the above scenarios and as explained in the Twitter account.

Message from an Orient fan earlier today about today's proceedings ......

"Court confirmed bill was settled with HMRC.

Then a few more creditors made themselves known (LOFT already knew about these)

A statement from the CEO was read out saying that he will settle all the other bills within the next couple of months.

Question is… why would he?

And what do we now about getting rid of this man who is/has brought the club to its lowest ever point wilfully."

- so today was a reprieve - the O's are in debt and facing the prospect of non-League football - the FA and FL support Bechetti because he is the owner - he is their customer and their interest ....... what a sickening reality.

FA - FL ...... tick-tock [:(!]
