I notice that Ed Sheeran occupies 16 out of the top 20 singles. Of course I know it all downloads now.
Still remember as a child, sneaking the radio into my bedroom to listen to the Charts on radio Luxembourg on a Late Sunday evening.
I am sure the excitement continued on a Sunday afternoon when Radio 1 had the countdown.

Anyone remember the first chart show you listened to or even watched on TOTPs. Any single which you were disappointed didn't make it to the top. Even worse the cringeworthy songs. What is the worse No 1 of all time.

I remember as a kid always listening to Pick of the Pops.

My first memory of it is 'Island of Dreams' by the Springfields. Was that about 1962?

Saw the Ed Sheeran stuff and it reminded me of the Revie team- at times they occupied every top ten position they were that good.[:D]

Totally with you on the Luxembourg chart show, under the covers on a Sunday night with crackly reception on a five quid radio. Think it was Tony Prince presenting.

For some reason I liked Frank Ifield's The Wayward Wind and it was the first single I bought.

Satisfaction by the Stones, that was some record. Still is.

Worse Number One of all time has to be Mr Blobby Music Video. Xmas number 1 in 1993 [cr]

Mr Blobby is a close second IMO.
Teletubbies has to be the worst.

My biggest disappointment was in 1970.
"Question" by the Moody Blues was heading for No 1 when "Back home" by England Football squad shot to No 1. What a load of garbage that was too!

My all time favourite memory of TOTP's was, having just listened to one of the multitude of XXXXXX inane ditties, hearing the first chord of Saxon's 'Wheels of Steel' blasting out of the TV!

Someone used to sneak in a radio to school and we would listen to the new chart on Tuesday lunchtime i recall.

Then we would have a Slade v Sweet stand-off in the playground.

Great times.

Plumbs, it's also like this board when a certain poster hears Fleetwood have won or when another poster has had half a shandy.

Sod the 'official' charts!....In 19878,before I 'found' John Peel, it was Radio Luxembourg and Street-Heat with Stuart Henry on a Sunday Night, playing New Wave and Punk singles...Thought I had died and gone to heaven ! [smi]

One of the BIG FIVE dominating - pity but it's the logic of turbo capitalism.

The charts meant a lot to me when I was a kid - it would disinterest me now 😪

20's I'll trump your Island of dreams with Breakaway by the Springfields 1961.

The first record I bought was Del Shannon 'Hats off to Larry' but prior to that my Uncle Wilf (Yes I was named after him) gave me three 78's, two by Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers 'Why do fools fall in love' and 'I'm not a juvenile delinquent' plus an Elvis 'Blue Suede Shoes'.

Oh how I wish I'd kept them no doubt worth a few bob now.
