As the derby game is almost upon us once more, its about time some facts were highlighted so that everyone is aware of the truth. Firstly, Preston North End are a has-been club. Mention winning any cup to a north-ender and they’ll stutter for a bit and they may mention summat about the year 18something or some other pre-war irrelevance. In fact, I’ve just checked and they have been voted as appearing in the worst FA Cup final ever (1938) - just read a match report for verification. Its funny how their ‘achievements’ are all pre-war, a time when football was nothing like the game we love today, a gentleman’s game played with minimal competitive edge. In fact ‘North End’ is Olde English for ‘has-been‘, and probably Latin too. Imagine supporting a club called ‘North End’? No thank you sir, it sounds embarrassing. Deepdale? What a sad place to be. Tacky faces on seats, transparent corrugated plastic, stands so bereft of anything that from the outside, you can clearly see the underneath of the concrete steps. And what is all that excessive white steelwork sh*t at the top? Clearly shows how the design of the ground was conceived during the 1980s. Just wait ‘til its match day too, or don’t cos it’s a bleak, soulless environment that has the atmosphere of a museum - oh hang on, that’s why that was built there…Famous players for PNE? Only one in their entire history, and he wasn’t as good as Sir Stanley. Not enough former legends to name your stands after, funny because Blackpool have loads. What else? Invincibles stand? Lilywhites? How sad. Never has the phrase ’always the bridesmaid and never the bride’ applied more readily to a football club - nearly getting promotion in the playoffs, nearly won a post-war FA Cup, nearly got to Wembley. Nearly did this, nearly did that, nearly broke free from being one of the most boring clubs in England. Ever noticed how all PNE managers are monotonous bores with no personality - just like North End itself, with its drab club colours. Well Blackpool have been to Wembley (old & new) loads more, gained promotion there AND at the Millennium Stadium, Lifted the FA Cup in 1953 (arguably the greatest final ever), and you can throw in a couple of Football League Trophies and a European cup win in ‘71 too. Over the years, Blackpool have had a tradition of playing entertaining and attractive football, whereas Preston hasn’t. Also Blackpool were the first club to have a player voted Player of the Season in its inaugural year (1948), and again we won that honour in the 50s and 60s, we had a player who won the World Cup, and was voted ‘man of the match’ for the final (despite a hat-trick from a team-mate), the first England player to score at a World Cup Finals was a Blackpool player - Stan Mortensen - oops there goes another famous Pool player, another embarrassment for the PNE. Also the first club to have a player voted European Footballer of the Year too. Quite simply Blackpool FC are superior - they have fans that can create a real atmosphere and we have more than one chant. Wherever we go (and we do go unlike Preston fans, in fact, a bit like Preston people in general really - born there, die there, achieve nothing, small minded townsfolk with little to offer intellectually), anyway wherever we go, we add colour, we add the carnival spirit and we make friends along the way. Getting on to Preston as a place, it’s a characterless wasteland with nothing of note, where the locals have silly accents and the weather is always miserable, in fact, (and after all this monologue is laden with facts), Preston gets far more rain than Manchester does, whereas in Blackpool the skies are bright and the sun shines regularly - that’s because the sun always shines on the righteous. And long may we shine, like a diamond in a mudpack, Preston - you are not even worthy rivals. Up the ‘Pool. ![]() | |

| Don't forget the £36 mil debt, no hope of paying it back, no players that anyone wants to generate money with. Admin on the way, -10 points league 1 is getting closer. The local muslims are going to buy the ground and put a big gold dome on top. At least then it will be full every Friday morning unlike Saturday afternoons. The saddos of Prescum would rather go to Deepdale retail park!!!! | |

| I started watching Blackpool in 1966. Since then the Nobbers have scraped a win at Bloomfield Rd twice. Twice in 43 years. Pathetic. Just to show I can be analytical about this, the first was in 1989 when Tony Ellis scored a hat trick and they scraped a 3-2 win. To stop it happening again we bought him. Last season, in our worst home form in decades, you scraped a win. During the same period we've won at Deepdale 8 times of the 16 games we've played, including every fixture since we regained our rightful place in the Championship. Bring it on. | |
